BREATH OF GOD MINISTRIES - Dr. Wayne M. Reynolds

2015 Sermon Series
The significance of the sermon is multifarious, yet the audience is specific. The purpose is even more specific. The Old Testament records numerous settings where God directed a specific individual or individuals to speak, generally to the Hebrews. Historians refer to this audience as the nation of Israel. In the New Testament the audience is expanded to include the Gentiles, meaning the rest of the world.  The audience therefore, is specific. God’s audience is the world. This is made evident in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have everlasting life."

Ultimately, and emphatically it is not the individual speaking to a group of people, it is God talking and relaying an important message. Acts 16:31 says “Believe in the Lord and be saved,” which is important with hell as the alternative to heaven. Romans 10:14 records: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”   The preached Word of God then becomes a priority!

Additionally, the human drama is replete with the throes of war and endless episodes of chaos, global suffering, mayhem and confusion reigning rampant, from the neighbor’s house to the White House. From challenging relationships to troubled youth, people everywhere are in need of peace, hope, love and in the end of this earthly journey, salvation. Every message from God is designed to help mankind on this side of heaven and an eternal place in the hereafter.

This year’s sermons are divided into four phases or categories designed to help the people of God. Phase One is Foundations and Landmarks, Phase Two is Progressive Spirituality, Phase Three is Season of Purpose, and Phase Four is Perfecting the Saints.

PHASE SUMMARY:

Foundation and Landmarks: Without a proper foundation any building is at risk of standing both the test of time and adverse conditions. In Scripture, landmarks serve two purposes; they serve as memorials and as a guide for others who will pass that way in the future. Both foundations and landmarks are essential for Christians, for without them the peace and harmony of their humanity is at risk, and also if they become lost where they will spend eternity.

Progressive Spirituality: Spiritual Progress is what God expects of us when we listen and study His Word. Spiritual Progress means that our stewardship and evangelism improves over time.

Season of Purpose:This phase guides our attention forward from Foundations, landmarks and spiritual progress to sermons that focus specifically on our divine purpose under heaven.

Perfecting the Saints: As Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), the earthly agenda of God’s Word is perfecting the Saints; shaping, molding and carving us into His own image and likeness.
